Special Needs Care For Those With Down Syndrome
Down Syndrome is the most common genetic condition and affects one out of every 700 babies in America. Individuals with Down Syndrome have varying degrees of cognitive delay. While the majority of individuals with Down Syndrome are in the “mild to moderate” category, there are some individuals with “moderate to severe” cognitive delay. At New Generations, we currently have two adult day care programs for individuals with Down Syndrome in Florence and Marion, South Carolina.
In the 1980’s the life expectancy of a child with Down Syndrome was around 25 years of age, however, with recent advancements in clinical treatments, as many as 80% of affected individuals are able to reach the age of 60. We understand the varying levels of this condition and are here to help your loved one feel comfortable, confident, and most of all, happy.

Importance Of Person Centered Care Plans
Although Down Syndrome is far more common than people realize, it affects each person differently. While there may be shared symptoms and characteristics among adults with Down Syndrome, each one has their own needs, personality, preferences and needs. Celebrating and honoring individuality is one of our strongest values at New Generations. That is why every attendee of our adult day care for Down Syndrome receives a custom Person Centered Care Plan.
We believe that each person’s needs are as unique as they are; this means the care they receive should be equally personal. We value more than just meeting each individual’s basic needs. Our Person Centered Care Plans emphasize the power of choice, independence and autonomy. Each plan is built in collaboration with you and your loved one. We take their needs, wants, strengths and limitations into consideration to build a schedule that promotes the greatest health, wellness and happiness in their life.
