Care for All Levels
A stroke can be a very scary thing. Not only do strokes affect nearly 800,000 people each year, but they are also the fifth-leading cause of death in the U.S. A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted or reduced, resulting in a lack of oxygen and nutrients. When the brain doesn’t get enough of these things, brain cells begin to die and can leave those affected with a variety of mental and/or physical issues. Contact us at our Florence or Marion, South Carolina location if you have any questions about our stroke care services.
Those at Risk
A stroke can affect virtually anyone, but those who are more at risk include people who:
- Have high blood pressure
- Are active tobacco users
- Have heart disease
- Are overweight
- Have diabetes
- Are 55 years and older
- Have a personal or family history of strokes
Types of Strokes
There are three main types of strokes that affect individuals: an ischemic stroke, which is caused by a blood clot, a hemorrhagic stroke, which is caused by a ruptured weakened blood vessel, and a transient ischemic attack, which is also called a “mini stroke.” All three of these stroke types can be harmful and should be treated as quickly as possible.
